Somebody assure me it’s not disrespectful to wear a hijab even is you’re not of the religion because DAMN those things look great.

Not necessarily! There are a surprising amount of other faith followers that are “hijabi.” Hijab is usually referring to Muslim women that cover everything but their face and hands. In the pagan world there’s been a surge of women who have taken to “veiling.” In the Bible it refers to women covering their head while praying.
While I’m not everyone’s opinion or belief and surely could be wrong, I haven’t seen any terrible objections towards veiling. If it makes someone feel good or in this case, which I think is awesome, leveling the play field of discrimination, then I don’t see any problem with it. I’ve even done it myself on particular days (and have stories about that) because of my spirituality.
